Deadbeat Club / Litte Big Man, 2015 | Edition of 400
Softcover, 48 pages, 215 x 280 mm
An unbound limited edition zine of Nick Waplington's earliest work, showcasing two separate photographic collections taken between 1979 and 1986. The first one, Made Glorious Summer, traces Waplington’s teenage years living across Surrey and West Sussex during the Thatcher years when British post-punk youth were politically active and the marches and protests would quickly turn into riots. Juxtaposed throughout the gritty black and white images of the UK are brightly colored pictures from Waplington's series Surf Riot, taken during a riot at the Surf Pro Championships of 1986, when hundreds of young surfers rampaged, for no apparent reason, through Huntington Beach, California, overturning police cars and setting the beach alight.
