A collection of photographs from the archive of a photo studio in the suburb of Lavasan, Iran, compiled by documentary film director Bahman Kiarostami.
Photo Riahi is a family-run photography studio in Lavasan, a city near Tehran, where a significant number of Afghan workers live. To reduce their homesickness they send to their families portraits of themselves photoshopped against surreal backdrops to include a combination of their dreams and aspirations. Their lives have always been accompanied by war, bloodshed and destruction. The desire to put an image of themselves and their loved ones in front of a beautiful landscape shows their distressing reality against their far-fetched dream.
