Jürgen Baldiga moved to Berlin from rural Germany in 1979, and quickly made a name for himself as a self-taught photographer of the city's underground queer scene. His straight forward, black and white photo portraiture remains very underrated. He often took as his subject matter the forgotten, the forbidden, the maligned, and the humorously irreverent, as seen in this book focusing on Berliner transvestism during the early 80s. Jurgen Baldiga’s work was cut short by his own death from AIDS in 1993 at the age of thirty-four.
