Surely one of the most iconic and controversial photobooks published in recent memory, Madonna's Sex broke records as the fastest-selling illustrated book. Art-directed by Fabien Baron and edited by Glen O'Brien, Sex is a collection of photo essays divided into themes, photographed by Steven Meisel, exploring sexual fantasies and fetishism. The book includes appearances by Isabella Rossellini, Big Daddy Kane, Vanilla Ice (her then boyfriend), Naomi Campbell and Udo Kier among others.
Although the book was a vast commercial success and attracted massive media attention, it received mixed reviews. Even though fans and critics felt Madonna had "gone too far", Sex's impact is undeniable and has later been recognized as a bold post-feminist work and one of the most sought-after out-of-print books by the general public.
