Das Auge, die Gedanken, unentwegt wandernd [The eyes, the thoughts, ceaselessly wandering] is Walter Pfeiffer's highly sought-after second publication. These portraits of young men were taken over the course of six years between 1980 and 1986. Rather than using conventional models, Pfeiffer street casted adolescents whose looks intrigued and captivated him. Their faces are naïve, lewd and brimming with a cruel beauty. The essence of eros could hardly be portrayed with more immediacy, more simplicity and, paradoxically, more immaterial imagery. Every page of the book is permeated with themes of youth, desire and seduction.
